Academic, college, career and personal counseling is available to assist students and parents with any questions or concerns:

Academic counseling is offered to help students to gain skills to successfully communicate with teachers, to monitor credit status, to assist with study skills and to help students to plan an academic program that matches their career plans.

College counseling is offered in groups and individually to assist students in conducting the college search and application process. Through the MELMAC Foundation Grant , students will have many opportunities to visit college campuses. PSAT's and SAT's are coordinated and offered through the Guidance Office. Sophomores and juniors will be taken to college fairs. College planning and financial aid workshops are offered yearly for students and parents. Many scholarships are made available through the Guidance Office - seniors are encouraged to check regularly for scholarship information. Guidance recommendations for college or scholarship application are provided upon written request. Guidance recommendations may include subjective comments on personal conduct and character and major violations of the discipline code, as well as academic records and potential.

Career counseling is offered through administration of the Self-Directed Search with all 9 th graders and introduction of the CHOICES program in 10 th grade. Individual counseling is available to assist students in identifying their interests, strengths and goals.

Personal counseling is available on a short term or emergency basis to assist any student who finds that personal concerns are interfering with his/her studies. The Guidance Counselor will assist in making referrals for students who may need mental health or substance abuse services, and will involve parents when appropriate.

Parents who have any concerns about their child, whether general academic or social/emotional, are encouraged to contact the Guidance Office. If a student is having academic difficulty in a particular class, parents are encouraged to call the individual teacher involved. The Guidance Director will arrange parent-teacher conferences upon request.

Confidentiality is always observed unless a student reveals any instances of abuse or neglect, or expresses any intention of harming him or herself or someone else.
